My 2026 goal is looking pretty soggy.

I want to catch 1,800 bass in 2026 (I've caught 69 so far.), but my ambition might be all wet. Starting Wednesday, we are forecast to have six, straight days of rain, as in 24 hours of rain for six, straight days. It'll be seasonally cool too, in the forties for six, straight days. I love to fish in the rain when it's in the seventies or even the sixties, but the forties? Nah. Oh, yeah, it'll also be windy. I'm even going to pull my canoe out of the water on Tuesday and flip it instead of simply bailing like I usually do.

Now, we've been in drought since last summer, so this rain is very good for Maine. It's just very bad for my 2026 goal. So, when I stop posting bass pics in a few days, this will be why:

With the amount of time you fish and the numbers you catch, I feel like the goal isn't out of reach. It's still only April.

That being said, more of the country is in drought right now than at any point since the drought monitor started in 1980, so if you are getting rain, consider yourself fortunate. Look at the entire southeastern portion of the country on this map. It's gonna be ugly this summer in many parts of the nation if a major pattern shift doesn't occur soon. Literally the only 2 states without any form of drought are North Dakota and Michigan.

Thanks for the reminder, Gim, that rain is life.

Send your rain to Georgia. Maybe it'll put out our fires. It's early and you're a consistent performer. I have faith in ya.

If you're going to get just rain, that may improve fishing in the long run. It's the lightning, hail, and gusty wind that I worry about.
