Daiwa Tatula TTU731MHFB, 7' 3" Medium-Heavy Fast

Featured Replies

I just purchased a Daiwa Tatula TTU731MHFB, 7' 3" Medium-Heavy Fast for a Jig Worm rod based off @Catt 's recommendation that I always see him post all over the place. Looking around on-line I see Brent Ehler's video's saying that this rod is to be used for EVERYTHING. So I would like to hear what those that own this rod use it for. I can see small paddle tail swimbaits with the tip on this as well.

What else does this excel at? Is it a good chatter bait / swim jig rod or would you be better off getting a MH/MF for those types of techniques?

Any thoughts on the new reel seats without the exposed blanks, have you noticed anything with the sensitivity with it?

I am hoping to have decent weather to go on on the water and play with it a little bit.

I have the "Moving Baits" Tatula, but use it for small bottom contact. I have owned two other generations of Tatula rods, and the new reel seat doesn't seem to affect sensitivity to me. Personally I think people make too much out of reel seat design being exposed vs not exposed blank. I think Diawa did a fantastic job with the new Tatulas.

Great rod. I have it in the AGS version. Spinnerbaits, chatterbaits and bigger topwaters are normally what have on it. I don't throw swim jigs much but I'm sure it would work fine.

I have the 1st Gen Kage( KAG731MHFB), which is VERY similar (IIRC they were only priced with a $10 price difference) and is also listed as an "All Around". I don't know chatterbaits and swim jigs that well, but for bottom contact type jigs, Texas rigs, Carolina rigs, shakey heads, etc. it's been a standout rod for me for several seasons. IMHO the power and action ratings are spot on, it's well balanced.

There is also a Brent Ehrler Tatula Elite version of this rod labeled as "Multi Purpose" instead of "All Around" (TTEL731MHFB) which several shops have, but are selling it for around $220. If you are a good internet shopper, you can also find shops that have it in stock, and have not yet raised the price from the original price of $189. AT $189, I think it's a no brainer so long as you don't mind the EVA split handle and the silver colored rod. If you want the full cork handle and a black rod, then the 'regular' Tatula just might be your huckleberry.

I have the OG Tatula 7'2 MHR with the gold accents and it's my favorite and most versatile rod to this day. It's my "spinnerbait" rod right now but before that it was my true all-purpose rod. Anything from jigs, worms, cranks in a pinch, chatterbaits, spinnerbaits, topwater, jerkbaits. It toes that line of fast but not too fast where it can do pretty much whatever you throw at it. It just doesn't have the backbone for heavier things like frogs or flipping. But it's always in rotation with something tied on.

That is the rod I most regret selling

I have this rod in the Steez model and it is extremely versatile. I use it for pitching plastics and light jigs, stupid tubes, Senkos, Sleepers, free rigs, power shotting- basically anything lighter than a traditional jig. I know Daiwa lists this rod for spinnerbaits and vibrating minnows but I have other rods I use for those applications. Along with my 843GLX, it's just about my most versatile rod.

I have the Tatula 6'10" MH/F rod. It's my multi-purpose MH rod. Usually I have jigs and T-rigs on another rod, but I will use it for T-rigs when I need a little more power.

The 7'3" is supposed to have a little bit more tip to it, but otherwise be similar.
