I like my cashion element z2 frog rod. It’s a 7’3 heavy fast but can still cast frogs very far with a Daiwa silver wolf(zillion spool). It had enough tip to cast them but enough power to get them out of cover.

Just curious, what made you decide to change out the spool on the Silver Wolf. I love the Zillion and the Zillion HD I have but the Silver Wolf has been problematic to say the least.

As far as a frog rod goes, I use a 20+ year old Loomis IMX 844C and sometimes a Megabass Valkyrie 7'1" H. I haven't really found a rod yet that would make change using these two but I will continue to look. I've been eyeballing the frog rod from Teckel but its always sold out.

I love my 71H Valkyrie, but it has a frog tied on it 100% of the time.

Do you ever use yours for anything besides frogs? I feel like I want to try flipping with it in a pinch.

It’s still more fun catching them on the high end rods; can’t be convinced otherwise. Sure, I’ve caught tons of them on heavier dead-er sticks. Works just fine, nothing wrong with it but it’s still a different feeling on a very light weight high end rod. For example, pulling a bass into the boat on my Dobyns champ 766 flip doesn’t feel anywhere the same as my 73xh expride. The liveliness of the blank changes the feeling. And the champ 766 is no budget rod, it’s just not nearly as sensitive.

I understand what you’re saying, I’ve just had people I’m fishing with double take the rod when I bust it out. I use it for 3/4oz jigs and punching as well so the sensitivity matters. It’s honestly one of if not the most sensitive casting rods I’ve ever used. The caveat is you need serious weight to be able to cast with it. Even smaller frogs are a no go. Don’t bother tying on with less than 5/8ths, you ain’t launching that bait nowhere.

Once hooked up the rod has a great action which is really similar to my 873. Fast but not too fast. Works really well with jigs and frogs or anything in slop because it has enough give and power to not let the fish grab leverage.

I've used it for A-rigs, other topwater, some heavier Texas Rigged worms, square bills, 3/4oz bladed jigs and spinnerbaits but it's really great as an all around topwater rod.
