Your Current Leader Line with Braid Mainline ?

Featured Replies

Suffix Elite in 8 and 10 lb.

Tatsu in 6 and 8 lb.

On my ultra light set up is 4lb Trilene XL

I generally use whatever is lying around. Currently it's Yo-Zuri Hybrid and some Invisx. I know everyone on here seems to hate Vanish, but I've been using Vanish 4lb on my trout setups for a couple years now. I've never had one of our "massive" 1 to 2lb trout break it yet :)

Been using 8# Sunline Sniper for the last 6 years.

Only complaint is it doesn't like the Palomar knot so after a few lost fish,

Switched to the Fish-N-Fool and all is well.

I have considered using main line FC lines as leaders from Invisx , Abrasx or Sniper and see what differences I may notice (versus a dedicated leader line).

In my on again, off again relationship with fluoro, 2026 is an off year. For leaders, it is Big Game up to 12#, and Defier for everything beyond. So far the catching seems at the normal rate and size.

I feel like there isn't really one right answer for this...where are you fishing? What type of lure are you using? For example I really like 12lb Sunline FC Leader for drop shots but I've usually got a fair amount of grass, cover or zebra mussels around when I'm fishing a finesse lure on bottom so for that type of thing I want something that's a little more expensive but will hold up in tougher conditions.

On the other hand, if I'm throwing a smaller moving bait on a spinning rod that line doesn't go through as much as so I've found I'm fine with 12lb Yo-Zuri T7 Fluorocarbon. That one isn't a leader line but it's worked great for me and is less expensive so I can save the more expensive Sunline FC line for my bottom contact lures. As far as the lb test goes I've landed on that based on how much strength and abrasion resistance I need while still taking the typical water clarity I'm working with into consideration.

That said unless you are fishing the same lures as I am in the same spots then there's probably a very good chance that something else might be a better fit...but having said that these are my main choices these days and I personally feel like they are both good in terms of quality and value. I'm actually considering trying out the Yo-Zuri as a main fluorocarbon line at this point and will say I've been impressed with Yo-Zuri in general lately in terms of value and quality.

For quite sometime , at the suggestion of a helpful friend here (Tom - RIP) - I have been using Maxima Ultra Green leader wheels in 6lb - 15lb. (depending on application) . It’s a robust leader line , knots hold up well , it’s good for any depth - including top water , it’s low in price and virtually disappears under water. Seaguar Gold FC lable leader line would be on my short list to try and there may be other leader lines worth trying but so far I’m still satisfied using Maxima Ultra Green as a leader for everything with braid . What are your current favorite leader lines you are using with braid main line ?

I use whatever I have on hand.. Shooter invisible, J-Floro, Tatsu, Invizx. I honestly think that buying a 1/4 spool of "leader line" is just marketing. BTW, I did drink the coolaid and bought a spool of J-Floro leader in 17# that I use for pitching and a JWR and I dont see any diff to the 17# invizx that I used prior. YMMV.

8lb - 12lb Tatsu
