Which is better overall for a glidebait reel

Featured Replies

Try to feel them in store. I do not fish baits that heavy but if I was looking for a reel for it, maybe check out the scorpion md and save a few over the tranx 200. The reason I would go with the shimano is based on palming. I’ve felt a tatula 150 in store which I believe is the same frame as the new 200; and it felt pretty big to me. The tranx 200 felt more comfortable. Another big consideration would be the braking systems but I don’t have experience using them with lures that heavy.

Daiwa 200s are basically the same as Shimano 300s, so ergonomics will be pretty different. Then comes spool diameter being a bit different so a say 7.1:1 in each will pull a different length of line. With that out of the way the ratios for glides are usually higher speeds. It sort of comes down to line diameter you're using and bait size. 3oz and 15lb mono? yeah any shimano 200 will be fine. 20lb mono and a deps 250... Daiwa 200 all day.

If we're talking about the new Tat 200, they're unbeatable at that size. Replace bushings by quality bearings, and it'll feel like a quality $350+ reel.
