Zodias vs. Expride???

Featured Replies

Since the Expride increased in price if I stepped down to the Zodias will I really miss out in sensitivity? Uses will be a large worms, and creature baits.

Short answer is yes, but to a limited degree. Fishing rods are all chasing diminishing returns when compared side by side.

Think of it like this. The largest jump in sensitivity would be from $50 to $100 because you’re moving from a high filler graphite to a more purpose built blank. From there you’d see another jump, but smaller in magnitude from $100 to $200. This continues until you have nearly no change above $500. In my hands there isn’t a massive difference between rods over the ~$350 price point.

Most price increases in high end rods are their guide trains which target weight reduction not increased sensitivity. I don’t think for a second a Titanium Torzite guide translates more information than sea guides with alconite rings. The titanium’s will be much lighter though.

If your experience with the expride is 100% sensitivity the zodias might be 90% if I had to guess. I don’t fish any Shimano rods and haven’t had one since early 2021.

A to A was a big step down. I don't have experience with either B model yet.

No, The Zodias has always been as sensitive as Expride in my hands. You are giving up aesthetics and the TB seal of approval.

The zodias and poison adrena aren’t that far off in sensitivity. If you said the expride is halfway between then I’m going to tell you that you won’t notice the difference. The grips are definitely different and I much prefer the PA. The PA is lighter and has lighter guides. But sensitivity is going to be really close.
