When does fishing pickup after a cold front

Featured Replies

Just had a big cold front go through SW Ontario this week and the temp will start to increase tomorrow thru the weekend. I would like to get out on lake erie on Saturday if the fish are biting. Thoughts??

Your timing sounds pert near perfect. Cold fronts clamp their mouths, but feeding less for a few days means they'll be hungrier when they start feeding again after a day or two of warming.

The bite turns back on when I leave the lake.

I hear you there - the bite turns off just before I hit the lake...turns back on when I'm packing to go home.

It depends on how long the cold front sticks around, but usually by the third day after it passes, things start looking up.

You can catch them during the frontal conditions, but it's work.

BTW, if you're targeting smallmouth and the weather takes a complete turn around to overcast, or rainy conditions, you can expect improvement after just one day of passing.
