I currently have 3 Bluetooth mice sitting on my desk. All Logitech. M720, M510 and can't find a model number on the third. All get the same problem after a year or two of use. I only need a mouse for manipulating text (and working in Mastercam). No gaming or video use. Highlighting text for deletion, copying, etc. becomes inconsistent. May lose highlighted text, highlight more than I want, can't highlight a few characters on a line, release button and highlighted text loses highlight, etc.

Why? Is there something I can do to them to make them work correctly? I've tried cleaning and new battery (or batteries).

Yesterday I finally broke down and purchased a wired mouse. A Prime Steelseries esports. Arrived today. Had to adjust the CPI and scroll speeds but looking good now. However, my desk is always cluttered with prints, pens, scrap paper for taking notes, etc. so I really don't like the wire adding to the clutter. Obviously I will be using it for awhile but I'd like the option of Bluetooth if I could find one that would last for a few years.

Any ideas?

I use Logitech triathlon mice. I do a fair bit if 3d modeling, and don’t use a “space” mouse like a lot of people. I’m no engineer, but can get around in Fusion 360 pretty good. The triathlon battery lasts forever, it’s Bluetooth direct connection as well as has a Bluetooth dongle. It hasn’t let me down. I used them when I was a working man as well…

Not Bluetooth, I've got an old Logitech M170 2.4gHz with transmit/receive module...it's outlasted 2 computers. Only issues I've had is if the USB module is plugged in the opposite side of my laptop from where I use it (right handed use, if it's plugged in the left port it gets flaky).

I use it for picture/video editing and with my CAD program, very sensitive and easily controllable.

Do you still have the dongle for the M720 Triathlon? 2.4Ghz is superior to Bluetooth. It could be in the storage compartment in the mouse.

Yes I do and I had it pugged in. I wasn't aware you could use a Bluetooth mouse without one.

Here is how to check to see if it is using Bluetooth or the dongle. If it’s on Bluetooth, switching it to RF might help. If not, you may need a new mouse. I do play video games so recommending what I use would be overkill. However, wireless computer mice are established technology. Picking a mouse is more about comfort than anything else. Goto a computer store with displays that let touch some the mice and decide which one feels good would be my advice.
