Load up the spool

Featured Replies

I finially bought my first baitcaster. The one and only I had was a gift from my father when I was a teen. 23 years later and after using spinning reels for everything I went and bought a baitcaster. This is what I bought.

Abu Garcia Revo SX 6.4:1

6'6" Med/Hvy Fast action St. Croix rod

NOW IT IS TIME TO LINE IT UP!

WOULD LIKE TO PUT ONE TYPE OF LINE ON IT. NO LEADERS. JUST GOOD LINE. THANKS GUYS!

#12 Yo-Zuri Hybrid or Hybrid Ultra Soft.

Right now I have some cheap line that I bought last summer, in 17lb...  Never buy cheap line!  I have heard that braids work wonderful!  Spiderwire works well for me on almost all my other gear!  ;)

12 lb Seaguar!  Disappears as soon as it hits the water and no stretch!  Love it, but hate the price!  Try a 200 yard spool $15.00 and if you like it buy the 1000 I think $69.00.

i use 30lb power pro..works great...super sensitive and few backlashes

Since this is your first BC reel, I'd recommend Trilene XL as the first line for it. It has the lowest spool memory and will give you the fewest problems as you learn to cast. Once your thumb is educated, you can move on to flouro or braid with more confidence. Xl is cheap compared to braid and flouro, so a few major, "get out the knife" backlashes won't hurt as much. Good luck with it. Luck has nothing to do with it though. Practice it what it takes. Do it in the back yard if you cant do it on the water.

Cheers,
