Frog Rod

Featured Replies

Looking for a heavy, fast action frog rod  that won't break the bank. I'm looking to spend anywhere between $50-80. I might go up to $100 depending on the rod. I would be using it to fish frogs and toads, and maybe small swimbaits. Any suggestions or favorites? Thanks

I haven't been able to try it on the hollow body frogs but the 6'9" AllStar spinnerbait rod worked very well. Was able to pull them out nicely when I was using horny toad type baits. There are several members on here that would agree the rod is versatile aswell.

Personally, I use the G Loomis Frog rod and love it, at your budget, I'd look into the Okumas.

I bought the extra heavy 7'3" Okuma guide select swimbait rod from tackle warehouse for $99.00

what a great rod.  Lighter than I expected, fuji alconite guides. split grip.  Excellent value.

For your purposes the MH guide select would be great.

good luck and have fun.

I use the Redington RFXC 7411. Its a 7'4" Extra Heavy, fast action rod. I have two for frogging so I don't have to retie when I want to throw two contrasting colors. I strongly recommend this rod and its at the top end of your price range at $99. Check out www.redington.com , its part of the RFX Series.

i use a st croix legened tourney bass frog rod ,,, i was useing the loomis frog rod .... bolth are great rods ,, however i felt the croix would suit me better ..... i also noted the croix had less cork and was liter in over all weight ..... i would tell ya to just get a premiere hev 7 ft fast ,,,, but i do believe you may be able to find eighter the loomis or the croix on ebay or maybe even in the flea market section of this fourm .... i would do the foot work and see if i could come up with a frog rod ..... also you may want to look at tackle warehouse and see what they may have under the frog section ..... if im not mistaken i believe they have a diawa lite and tough frog rod that may be in your price range ..... i know they also have the kistler jig and toad rods there too ..... snoop around  ;)
