I always seen to have problems with my line. It never fails to get all tangled on the real. First I thought it was just old line but I have the same problem when I put new line on. I dont but the most expencive line but I dont but the cheapest either. I have tried differnt brands but always end up with the same problem.

Is there a line out there that has no or little memory? Or is there something I can do or put on my line to keep it from tangling?

Are you using a bait caster or a spinning reel? If it's a bait caster you may need to do some adjustments to the magnetic brake system or the tighten the spool. You may also have too much line on the reel. It could be a lot of different things. If it's a spinning reel... it could be too much line as well. I let the line brush my finger on casts when I use a spinning reel. That said... I never have any problems with a bait caster or a spinning reel, but it takes practice. I've been using them since the mid 80's so I'm used to them.

What kind of reel are you using, what kind of line and test and what weight lures?

Im using a spinnign real with 6lb test. Luers range from about 4-8oz.

I use Trilene XL or Triple fish spinning line. Pretty soft and very little memory. Still get a loop every one in awhile, but it doesn't jump off the reel like other line.

WOW 4 to 8 i dont even use them on my surfrods  or my big baitcasters with 25 lb line 6 lb line on a spinning reel tops would be 1/2 oz to 3/4 and that be depending on how far your casting ...To me 6 lb line and a spinning rod = med light fishing with lures 1/4 oz or less

If a spinning rod has new line or too much line they will tend to jump off the spool after the bait hits the water. I always finger the line and stop it when it hits the water. Also... It's best to lay the spool flat when putting on line for a spinning reel. If it starts to kink up real bad while re-lining... flip over the spool.

It will also help to troll the line behind the boat or drag it through the grass (without a lure) to remove the twists.

1)  Make sure the line is coming off the filler spool the same way it is going on the reel.  In other words, if you begin filling your reel and the line is twisting as it leaves the filler spool, stop and flip the filler spool over.

2)  Then continue filling the reel until it is approximately 1/8" from the rim of the spool.

3)  Always close your bail by hand and pull the line tight before you begin your retrieve after every cast.

And your problems will go away.  You may need to re-troll the line every few outings to keep things trouble free as some lures and riggings will impart twist while fishing.

i have had problems with the twists and still do sometimes. i find that new lines give me more problems than when it been cast a couple hondred times. i use 20-30lb braid and i find that the braids gives me  much less twists. the up side if there is, i have become an expert at removing bird's nests. a little patience will save you alot of money on lines. :
