Suffix Siege

Featured Replies

I'm not trying to make this a bashing thread, but I just thought I would share my opinion.  I recently bought some #12 Suffix Siege and am very unhappy with it.  First off, I would like to state that this line is thicker in diameter than other comparable lines.  I also tested the actual breaking strength and it didn't break until almost 16 pounds of pressure was put on it.  I tested it on a digital scale and it way over shot the stated line strength, by close to 4 pounds.  Although it does have good knot strength, as advertised, it is a stiffer line than others such as berkley trilene.  It took sometime getting used to the line on my baitcaster, for it wanted to jump off the spool faster and was more prone to backlash for that reason.  I also found that it is not very abrasive resistant.  I bought the line, because I wanted to try something new and experiment with different brands.  This may have been my first Suffix purchase, but it will most likely be my last.  I'm not sure what other people's thoughts are on this line, but I thought that I would share my experience.

I haven't tried Sufix Siege because I have other mono lines I'm satisfied with.  However, don't count out all Sufix lines because of your experience with this one.  IMO, Sufix Performance Braid is the best braid on the market and I used to be a Power Pro junkie.  As for the line being stronger than its stated strength that is a good thing in my book, as long as the diameter isn't thicker.  In your case, it sounds like the diameter was more than the size you would accept for 12 lb line.  Maybe someone else can comment from personal experience with this particular line.

I agree with senile. Suffix braid is the best braid I have ever used. I still use 65lb PowerPro on my frog rod because I have a bunch left over. But as soon as my stock pile is gone, the frog rod will get Suffix just like all my other rods that are running braid.

I agree that their braid is the best i've used.

I have to say I liked sufix siege when I used it. Seemed to do what they said it would.A thick stiff mono well suited for fishing in cover. I did not notice any problems with abrasion resistance.  Reminded me alot of trilene xt in regards to significantly overtesting, high diameter, being a little tough to manage etc.  Most lines overshoot their breaking test and some like yo-zuri hybrid, trilene xt etc. do so by alot.

But if it doesn't work for you you shouldn't use it. Sorry you weren't pleased but do try the braid- I highly reccomend it despite your sufix troubles.

I was just reading up on the Siege and the Elite Sufix lines.  As stated by MDangler14, Siege is made for heavier cover so this could explain the thickness of it, though it wouldn't explain a problem with abrasion resistance.  I read a test on the Sufix Elite Brand on tackletour.com and they seemed to love it.  Again, I'm just rambling because I haven't used Siege, but considering some of these things, it's possible Siege isn't the line for you, or you may have got a bad spool.

fishingfrenzy,

I'm surprised that you had a bad experience with suffix.   I have actually had great experience with it on my spinning reels...  casts great, is very managable, strong and pretty abraision resisitant.  I do buy all line by diameter, not listed # test as most lines are rated lower than they test.  That is a "mine is stronger than yours" marketing thing between companies, that got out of hand years ago.

In my own use, I find it to be very well behaved and stronger than many same sized dia. lines.

How did you test abraision resistance?  I'm curious because I break off less with it than with XL and spiderwire xxx mono, so just curious what your comparison or test was.

i have had the exact opposite experiances.first other lines i used would backlash on every trip at least one time, since i swithced i hardly ever backlash (usually from casting into wind) as for the abrassion resistancethe line will look as tho it is messed up and has rough spots but from my testing this never affects its strength until it has hapened many times.and i am still not sure why you are upset witht he vreaking strenght, in my mind that would be a good thing and most companies do overshoot the strenght for the main purpose that customers wont get upset when it breaks under the tested strenght
