Striper and Blue Fish outfit

Featured Replies

What do you guys recommend. The only reel i have that'll handle big fish is a shimano sahara 4000FB that is laying around in my room...i think it should be adequate, but i'm not sure. However, I only have ultra light and light action rods... What would you guys recommend for a rod? I'm willing to spend around 100 buckaroos on it.

I am open to any suggestions about reels, combos etc.

(ps i will be fishing from a point at the mouth of a bay and maybe off my friend's dock and will use bunker, clam and live killies as bait)

Gosh, I'm really not sure if my inshore outfits are still available.

Anyway, for slammer blues (high teens) and big cow stripers (30 & up)

I really like the Kunnan Hot Rail (graphite) - 5ft, 6-in Med Hvy (20 to 50lb).

I've used many reels, but one of my favorites was the Penn 321 GTi (left-hand)

Rolo,

I see you like Kunnan rods, they are great rods. A buddy of mine has few live bait rods that we use to use for King Mackeral. Hard to find, I believe that the factory burned down and the company went our of business.

As for the question, I can't  give a response for the Striper part as we do not get that many Srtipers here in Southeastern North Carolina, but for the Bluefish your Sahara might would work for smaller fish, as long as they do not spool your reel. I have one us those reels and it will hold up 160 yards of 12# test mono. One option would be to spool it with 20 pound power pro braid, I beleive it has the diameter of 6# test line, that would take care of getting spooled. As far as rods go for around a $100 dollars you could get a Shimano Teremar series inshore rod. If you had a level wind reel, such as a old Penn 9 or a bigger Abu Garcia then I would say the a MH would be good as far as heldling heavier baits.. Another option is to go to Bass Pro Shops web site and check out some of their combos. Some of their saltwater spinning outfits are pretty decent.

Pay $120 and get the st.croix tidemaster ts76mf. I have this rod with a 4000 stradic and have caught 40" 20lb snook on it with no problems. It's a great rod for fishing with bait or artis and a cast like a great also.

Thank you, I wasn't aware of that.

Oh well, first we lose Harnell, and now Kunnan >;)
