i pretty much grew up using spinning gear...until i moved to minnesota about 5 years ago....i then got my first casting set up to use for pike....i fell in love with it....now i have two identical casting setups and have rarley used my spinning gear up until the last two days...man do i miss it!  it was just alot of fun to use....no backlashes, no adjusting brakes, easily casting light baits...i just loved it...i am seriously considering selling my casting stuff to buy new spinning gear...and just go all spinning for everything...so keep your eyes on the flea market, might be some stuff up for sale/trade soon!

You're kidding right? That's the first case of a baitcaster switching to spinning I've heard of.

I thought about switching to casting, but the more I think about it the more I'm leaning to sticking with spinning. I'v gotten accurate enough with a spinning rod that I see no advantage in switching now.

I agree. I like both spinning and baitcast equipment equally well. For me, it's a matter of baits/ lures and technique. Finesse = spinning tackle; power fishing and fast retrieve = baitcasting gear. But that's just me. Every technique can be used with either type of equipment.

RW, I'm sure you're aware that baitcasting doesn't always provide faster retrieves. Many spinning reels take up more line per crank than baitcasters with higher gear ratios.

Not speaking for rw, but I never feel very comfortable retrieving baits that quickly with spinning gear.  Casting gear offers more control when burning, IMO.

Don't sell off of any type of gear, unless of course you are upgrading. Just keep the casting gear, update the spinning gear, and you're set.

I was talking to a new guy at my day job, and he asked me how many rod and reel combo's I have and I said I only know how many fly rods I have. 10. All the others I would have to go home and count, because I'm not sure.

Moral of the story, there is no such thing as a "do it all" rig. You need at least a few to cover the bases, more so if you are a multi species type guy.

well i am not planning to go with just one rig for everything, but to have all my rigs be spinning...tonight i went out and only brought my spinning set up...was a very enjoyable trip...only got 2 bass but one was 3.5 lbs but stupid me forgot to get a pic...was so worried about getting the fish back in the water the picture didnt even cross my mind untill it was swimming away!  anyway i cant really afford to go out and buy more gear so i was considering selling(or trading) my 2 casting outfits and using the money to buy new spinning gear...i havent made up my mind yet....

well i have thought about this alot over the last couple days....i have decided to keep my casting gear....but my next rod/reel purchase will be a spinning rig for sure...thanks for the tips guys, i knew i could count on you!
