Allstar rods

Featured Replies

I was given a Allstar spinning rod a few days ago and trying to find some imformation on it.  It is a 7 ft pro2 series pt 70 ms  medium action .  I call Allstar and the only thing they could tell me it is a magnum rod.  No much help at all.  Any ideas.

I have a 6ft. Medium action All-Star proII spinning rod, I got in on sale a couple months ago because apparently it was discontinued. Other than that all I know is that it is a great rod for skipping plastics under docks and trees.

The rod is a great rod.  I have been using it for soft plastic also.  Was wondering what it was design to throw???

Who cares what it was designed for? If you think it works well for throwing plastics then use it for that.

I care what it was design for.  I don't think their is such a thing as a general purpose rod.  All rods are made to throw a specific weight of lure with a specific line size.  That is the reason they go to all that trouble to stenciled it on them

Not to be crass but the line & lure info is often just a pro staffer's opinion based on a single field test... rarely is there an actual scientific measurement of the blank's capabilities.  There are tons of examples of the same blank labeled for different applications with different weight lure and line specs.

Having said that, I looked through some of my older All Star blank charts and didn't see a 7'2" spinning rod listed.  I also checked the old All Star blank charts online (mudhole) and came up empty.

As a total shot in the dark, a 7'2" med power sounds like one of the walleye rods.... is it a light tip and soft mid section?

The rod is a 7 footer and I would guess you are about right due to Allstar comment about being a magnum rod.  I am going to give it to my grandson anyway.  Thanks again Bud

I have 3 All Star rods and love them all. I have:

All Star American Classic AC CRC 7' Fast-Medium Heavy baitcasting. All Star labels it as a carolina-rig rod. But I've yet to use it for that. I usually use it with heavy plastics, like frogs, and for jigs. I also pitch and flip with it. Works great for that.

All Star American Classic AC-MSM-66 6'6" fast-medium spinning. I haven't a clue what All Star wants me to use it for. But I use it with lighter plastics like unweighted worms, spinner baits, etc. It's my general purpose spinning rod.

Team All Star IM10 graphite TAS786C 6'6" fast-medium heavy baitcasting. All Star says it's a worm rod. That's pretty much what I use it for. But I also use it for spinner baits and big topwaters.

I don't have the kind of money to use a rod for solely one kind of bait. I have my favorites for certain baits, but more often than not my rods pull double or triple duty and do just fine doing it.

I wouldn't worry about the labels.

You beat me to it. I was going to suggest that it might make a nice present for someone.
