what's the difference in rods labeled for fishing lures?

such as a rod that says 'Topwater' or 'crankbait' or ' worm rod' or 'spinnerbait'? I've always wondered what makes them so specific to a certain type of fishing as far as lures go... can anyone explain? Thanks!

The action and/or the lengths of the rods, crankbait rods have moderate slow action, spinnerbait rods have extra fast action, worm/jig rods have fast or extra fast action.
