shimano rod warranty

Featured Replies

i just broke the tip of my shimano compre i waws just wondering if shimano has an over the counter warranty or if i'll have to ship it back to shimano to get a new one?

How much of the tip did you break off?

They are supposed to be an "over the counter" warranty. BassPro replaced one of my Compre's with no problem.

yeah i thought the warranty was over the counter as well but i called bass pro in dania beach today and they told me i would have to take that up with shimano. i broke a couple of inches of the tip

Shimano has a over the counter warranty. I bought a cheap Shimano Carbomax once at a local tackle store. On the first cast two inches broke off, took it back and the shop exchanged it. I took the next rod home and must have over tightened the reel seat because the foregrip cranked. MY local shop replaced that one as well. They told me they just ship them back to Shimano. Sounds to me like BPS just does not want to be bothered with it.

Academy Sports & Outdoors has the best replacement policies in America, if it breaks you simply return it to them and they'll replace it no questions asked.

Here is the shimano warranty that was explained to me when I bought a Crucial.  I was told that the Crucial had a lifetime over the counter warranty with no questions asked.  When I broke my rod tip, I had a chance to test out this warranty.  The real warranty is that the store (in this case, Cabelas) would exchange the rod over the counter for the first year after the purchase date (make sure you have your receipt, otherwise you may not be able to exchange it without a proof of purchase) and after that year you have to send the rod back to Shimano, who will determine if your rod was broken while fishing (I don't know how they do this).  If they determine the damage was caused by manufacturers defect, you get a new rod.  If they determine the damage was caused by you, then I'm not sure what happens.  Either way, I think I will stick with G Loomis and Cabelas XML rods, because the G Loomis Xpeditor Service is great (even though you do pay $50) and Cabelas has a true over the counter warranty on their rods (you don't even need a receipt to exchange them).

This is my experience with warranties.

Kistler and GLoomis. $ 50.00 ( + shipping the old one, $ 20 )

Okuma. $14.95 ( + shipping the bottom piece of the blank, $ 7 )

Airrus. Free ( you keep the old one )

Shimano Crucial. Still broken in my garage.

I broke a Compre last year, it was my fault too. I sent it back with proof of purchase and had a new rod in about a week.  Just me personal experience no questions asked.  It only cost me for the shipping one way.

You must only mean kistler... the $50 you spend with Loomis includes the return label and you use the same tube the new rod was sent to you in.

I had a defective reel seat on a Crucial spinning rod and Bitters Bait and Tackle replaced it with out a problem.
