Yo-Zuri Hybrid Question

Featured Replies

As I've mentioned in other posts I'm pretty new to the world of Bass fishing.  I have a pretty nice set-up, Shimano Symetre FI2500/Browning Midas 6' MA rod, though probably best suited to finesse fishing I'll be using it for most everything, at least for now.

Here's the question.  I strung it up with 8# line but then started to read about the Yo-Zuri hybrids.  Now forgive my ignorance, but is the idea of these lines to allow the ability to have a small diameter, flexible line like a lighter test with the strength of a higher #test?  If so, wouldn't it be logical to use a line like that?

I've been trying the Senkos and I see that a bit heavier line than 8# is generally recommended and also see that the Yo-Zuri at 6# is like using close to 12#.  Sorry to drag this out but I'm a detail guy and like to know whats best-or at least what the concensus is amoung the experienced.  If the answer is yes use the Yo-Zuri, why wouldn't I use the 8# and have the benefit of more strength.  Thanks guys.  Hopefully I'll be sharing soon and not only asking!

I fish #6 (11.9 lb, .010" diameter) Hybrid Ultra Soft on my spinning tackle and I use spinning gear EXCLUSIVELY for fishing soft plastics. Besides strength the Ultra Soft has virtually no memory in use, which can be an issue with spinning tackle. On my baitcasters I'm using #12 Hybrid, 19.5 lb test. I think you would be happy with both of these lines.

I would not recommend Hybrid for a spinning reel but for casting reels, its good stuff.

Hey RW:

I started using this on my spinning tackle due to your recommendation and really like it but please clear something up for me.  You always state that you use "#6" (number six), I haven't seen the Yozuri listed as anything other than "pound test".  When you say #6 do you mean the 6# line? and does that have an actual breaking test of 11.9 lbs?  Thanks.

Gordon,

Look at the charts on Yo-Zuri's site... the #6 and #8 are only rated 0.1# difference.  And the #6 handles MUCH better than #8 and the only difference is a little extra abrasion on the #8 resistance due to the diameter being larger.  I used #8 the first time also and ended up going to #6- it was a good move.

If I were you, I'd probably use the #8 since you already have it but then replace it with #6 when you change.

Yes, Yo-Zuri lists all of their line as "pound test," but I think that marketing is dishonest. If it's "6 lb test" it should break at 6 pounds...duh? So, I refer to the line as #4, #6, #12, etc.
