Abu Garcia Ambassadeur Who Knows about this one?

Featured Replies

Hi,

I am new to the forum but thought I would just fall right in and see if there are any ambassadeur fans here, that like them for bass fishing. I used to have a old 5000 C that worked very well for me, but I have a chance to get a good deal on this ambassadeur but cannot find a thing about it anywhere!!

I would like to find out 1. specs 2. where I can find schematics and last of all 3. Can anyone make out this Model name---it before the 500.

It looks like CIXXCIR but that seems a little weird? Batch of cookies for the person who comes up with the answers :)

Thank you much

Its an axxar.Garcia made a lot of these in spinning reels too the name anyhow .The specs on will be the same as a 5500c.But  it wont have bearings in the spoool most likly just bushings or at most one bearing .It can be upgraded easily though. But it is still a very reliable reel now.Abu,s site may have schemetics on it .try 5500c and 5000 and even 5500c3 good luck

That's actually AXXAR.

Garcia had an AXXAR line of spinning reels.  This might have been a one off deal to get rid of some old 500 series reels they had left over.

The 500 is a tipoff, those were low end Garcia's they used to sell in places like Walmart on those rod n reel combo's.  The high speed doesn't mean much either, Garcia used to advertise the 4 and 5000 series reels as high speed even though they only had the 5.3:1 gear ratio. They only have 2 bearings, both located on either end of the spool.

Anyway, just looking at the handle, the plate thumbscrews along with the overall design it's a 90's design reel.  Apparently it doesn't even have instant anti-reverse?  What's the number stamped into the bottom of the reel seat?

Considering the condition, if you stuck it on Ebay you might get a few bucks more for it vs regular Garcia 500's from collectors.  A typical Garcia 500 usually go for around $16 - 20 depending on condition.

It's a solid dependable reel that's pretty much bullet proof.

Here's a schematic link

The work sheets I have on it..

Garcia Axxar 500 series Bait Caster, circulated 2004. It is a typical 5000 series round reel. Not real sure on the GR I would suspect around 5.4:1 but not much over that...

Thank you all, so much for the information, I thought it looked a lot like a 5000 but I sure was off on the model name. The number on the foot is 040005, now does that mean it was made in 2004 for sale in 2005? Anyway I suppose it would be a good back up reel.

Back up or main reel the Garcia has always been a work horse type reel (meaning it could handle most all that was thrown at it)....the 040005 means that it is a 04 run. The schematic for the reel is marked 04-00

I'm an Ambassadeur fan.  Thanks for sharing.

Two questions:

1)  what line do you have on that reel?

2)  Is the reel mounted on the rod backwards?  It looks like the spool release button is pointing towards the front of the rod given the location of the reel seat treads.
