Which Powell Rod???

Featured Replies

Hello all, i'm semi new to the forum and soaking up all the info.

I was hoping you guys could help me make a decision.  I just bought a Curado 100 DSV and I need help choosing which powell rod to get.  I'm too poor to have setups for all baits so i'm looking for something "universal" right now.  I currently have a Citica with a 7' MH (Not a powell).  I throw mostly T-rigs, cranks, topwaters, small swimbaits.

Any and all help is appreciated thank you.

Your MH rod is probably all you need for soft platics, jigs, small swimbaits and spinnerbaits. I suggest

getting a Medium Power/ Moderate Action rod for treble hook lures (towater, crankbaits and jerkbaits).

You should be set!

If you have a decent 7' MH fast rod,

then I would definitely go for medium power rod.   Personally I think the st. Croix TBC68MXF at 200.00 bucks is  a great rod for cranbaits and topwaters.  I know this goes against conventional wisdom, but the rod makes a walking bait, look like a pointer on quail hunt, and as one who does not use ultra high speed retrieves for crank baits (too much like work) I don't have an issue with ripping baits out the bass' mouth.

It's light, sensitive, and feels so good in my hand, I sometimes forget just which rod I'm holding  8-)

because he fishes with me, so he has a good mentor/bad influence depending on how you look at it :)

Why not powell rods? They're pretty awesome!

Follow what RW says though, he's always given me good advice on rods, hasn't done me wrong yet!

Yes he has taken me into the dark side..... and yes he IS a bad influence... at least thats what the women says, but I don't listen to her anyway!!!

What is the warranty on St. Croix, is it as good as Powell.

A 7' med sounds like the choice for me
