drop shot line?

Featured Replies

im beginning to love the drop shot.  what im wondering is what kind of line can i try. lemme explain. i have a medium/light setup im using for this. and i have had 8lb vanish flouro on it. i can feel the lure and everything as im working it down deep. ive tried it on my mono spooled rod and i couldnt feel anything i was doing with it at all. my problem is the flouro is a PITA. it comes flying off the spool every time i try to cast and wraps around the tip of the rod constantly.. also its a little weaker it seems. anyway  what kind of line can i use that will give me the sensitivity im seeing with the vanish but more manageable.

I use 10-20lb sufix braid with about 6 feet of 8-10lb flourocarbon for a leader. After using this method for the last 7 or 8 months, i could never go back!

I have been using Power Pro 8/1 with an 8# fluro leader for the last 3 years.  It works for me.

Aaaaaaaa...

#6 Yo-Zuri Hybrid Ultra Soft?

Vanish is absolute garbage, try P-line pure fluorocarbon or Seaguar InvizX they are much more manageable and perform much better than vanish.

Seaguar Invizx at 6# test. Seal the done deal with this fluorocarbon. :(

Give PLine CX a try.

I've used everything...PLine CX, CXX (currently using), Hybrid UltraSoft, Vanish, Trilene XL and a few others.  They all have their pros and cons.

I'm using 4 and 6 lb Gamma Edge floro. Still using same line I spooled up in April. It does twist some as all floro seems to but I have yet to break off a fish, even fishing Lake Erie often around all the zebra mussels.

About every 20 casts or so I'll take the bait off and throw out about 30-40 feet of line and reel it back (do this twice). That seems to get rid of most of the twist.

I'll sacrafice a little PITA for the strength of the line....

I agree with Basspro....Vanish is terrible.

For true fluoro InvizX is hard to beat. I've had good luck with triplefish also.

I used to not spool fluoro as much as you would mono....usually this will help keep it from jumping off the spool. Invizx is soft enough that I don't worry about it anymore.

Try P-line Halo.  It performed very well for me.  I just tried it last Sunday.  Sensitivity and strength is above par.

I also like the Yozuri Hybrid Ultra Soft.  It handles better than the halo but will give up points on sensitivity as compared to the halo.

I use Sufix 15 lbs ( 4lbs ) with A P-line CX 12 lbs leader...there are too many shopping carts and other        " cover " in my waters to go any lighter.
