Frog Reel

Featured Replies

I'm looking for a high speed reel for frog fishing, and I love my Daiwa Alpha's and Sol's, but do not care for the coupld TD-X's that I have.  How is the Zillion in relation to size comparison with the TD-X or Sol's, as most may not be familiar with the Alpha's?  I would really prefer the Alpha other than it is pretty slow on the line pick up department for slop fishing in my opinion.

How would people compare the Zillion to the Advantage Super Tuned?  How do they compare in overall size?

I have small hands and love the Alpha and Sol reels, and would like to know which of the following would suit me best:  Zillion 7:1, Advantage 6:3 or even the Aplpha 150 (if anyone has used or seen this reel)?

Happy Holiday's,

Steve

Welcome aboard!

I'm sure the Daiwa boys will be by shortly.

Yeah I know there is going to be a vote for the Zillion, I'm just waiting for him to post it.

I wouldn't consider myself a Daiwa boy but I do own some.  From my experience with Daiwa's and from what I have heard, the Zillion would be the way to go. Besides, it's the only one with the real high speed you are looking for. As far as palming it, it sits a little lower than your TD-X's but not as low as your Alpha. If it turns out that it is not low enough, I would suggest trying out a Revo SX or STX. Very low profile, casts a mile, and even the 7 to 1 has a ton of power. But then again, you asked about Daiwa. :-/

i use the zillon ,,,, love it for froggin ..... as for the size of the reel and weight you may wanna play with one befor you buy ..... i my self love this reel due to the frame and size of the reel ...

If you're going Daiwa, then another vote for the Zillion.  It palms well for a tuff, super fast burner.  I use mine for frogs and other topwater presentations, and I love it.  The swept handle feels great when working TW baits.

Infidel mentioned the Revo.  It is worth a look before you pull the trigger.  I've never personally used one, but lots of people love the high speed STX for the application you listed.
