Looks like your dad is going after some large fish.

I only hope he knows that 50lb test is over lining his rod by 2X's, and, that if he doesn't set the reels drags accordingly to absorb a lot of shock from heavy hook sets, he will probably snap the fast tip right off of that rod.

Good Luck & Tight Lines!!!!

That reel seems a bit heavy for that rod.  I'd put that reel on a swimbait rod myself.  Try a Zillion or Chronach instead.  as far as line goes, I like Sufix over Power Pro, and Samurai Braid over Sufix.

The Curado 300 is no bigger than the 200.  The only difference is the spool capacity.  It should match fine with that rod, I have one on a 6 ft. St. Croix for dock fishing Snook and it balances fine.  But then most everyone else here thinks the 200 size Curado is a massive lead battery!

The 200 and the 300 have the same frame size, but the 200 is still big.  I put my 200 DHSVs on All Star ACs 6'8" rods.  The reels seemed too big to me on those rods.  I took them off and put them on my 7' carolina rigging/frog rod, and my 7'6' flipping rod.  They feel much better on those rods.

The St Croix you described - 7" fast, 14-15 lbs - would probably make a good carolina rigging or frog rod.  Is it heavy or medium heavy power?

The spool on the 300 takes a lot of line.  I'd fill that thing up 1/2 with backing before I put on any braid.

Its a heavy seems nice for frogging to me.

Ive got arthritis and bersitis and havent had problems holding my Curados.  Granted my Sol is a pleasure to hold and use, but I wouldnt put it up against Snook and other tougher than bass species.  Im not even sure I feel it could handle a plus 10lb bass.  If the Curado is so heavy I wonder what the poor guys still using round Abu C reels do.  They must be real handicapped!

When I hear Curado 300/1, I think either inshore fishing, or finesse muskie/pike fishing.

I'm going to pick up two 301's, but these are for muskie/pike rods: Loomis's creature rod, which is great for BIG jigs with reaper tails, big lizards, etc; and Croix's Downsizer rod.  This rod was designed to fish smaller bucktails, small bulldawgs, spoons, etc.

I think the Croix/301 will make an excellent combo for big Dardevles.  This is going to be a great Canada rig.   :)
