Your Buzzbait setup

Featured Replies

What are you guys throwing buzzbaits on? I am thinking about getting a new setup just for buzzbaits because I fish them so much. I don't use heavy ones, nothing over 1/2 an ounce. What action/power/length rod are you using? Do you use mono or braid? Just looking for some options, thanks in advance.

I don't have a dedicated buzzbait set-up, but I either use my spinnerbait set-up (which is a G Loomis Spinnerbait Rod 6'9" MH, Pflueger President Baitcaster, and 12 lb. Hybrid line) or my topwater set-up (which is a G Loomis Bronzeback Rod 6'9" MH, Johnny Morris Reel, 14-lb Mono line).  Either one of these rods I would highly recommend for throwing a buzzbait.

Most of the time I'm throwing a buzzbait it is over grass, or around slop, so I usually go heavy with a 7' Heavy action Croix with 30 pound Power Pro. When fishing around docks or laydowns I go with a 6'6" MH Castaway with 20 pound Power Pro.

If I were building a setup just for buzzbaits, I'd go with a 7' MH Fast, a 7:1 reel and 20-30 pound mono.  I think heavy mono helps keep the bait up much better than braid, fluoro or any other small diameter line.

I use the same rig I use for spinnerbaits.
