Shimano Calcutta 150 Application?

Featured Replies

So I got one of the old model Calcutta 150s for Christmas and am trying to decide what application to use it for. It's a 5.8:1 ratio. I've got 6'6 and 7'0 M, MH and H to choose from. Anyone out there use one? What do you like it for? Cranks, Spinnerbaits, Worms etc. Just looking for some opinions.

I have a older 251, just a little bigger than the 150, and I use for softplastic.  I like the slower action of the reel for this purpose but of course with the slower speed it would also be great for crankbaits.  I have used this reel on both MH and H rods.  With its' weight, I find it balances well with a Loomis MBR844 and also the BCR803 but not so well on my MBR783.

My Calcutta has been a solid workhorse of reel.  Hope yours is the same.  B)

Great all around reel. I would suggest using it as a worm reel, but don't think of it as a worm only set up. A 6'6" - 7'0" MH rod would be a nice combo.

I've got 6 Calcuttas of different sizes.  They are the durable and strong.  I use mine for worm and cranks.  They are an all around reel.  I have them on 7 and 7.5 ' rods from Med to M/H to Heavy.  12-17 lb line

I own three of them myself. Definetely a great cranking reel. I have mine on a 7'0 M, 7' MH Fenwick Techna AV and I love it. I tend to use low profile for worms though.

the calcuttas are workhorses ..... id put it on bolth rods ,,,, see where it feels better .... nice strong drags .... i believe it would make a killer worm and jig rod .....

i just picked up a 251 ill be using as a swimbait reel ,,,, i also have a 51 for cranks .....  ;D

I have a 251, I use it for dragging baits in the Bay, Striper fishing mostly now.

They are VERY capable reels.......look HERE

Seeing how the 251 handled that striper, I would have faith in the 150 for LM Bassin'
