Hey all...

Well it's 65 degrees here in the Northeast today, and I was able to take a few casts with my new BPS Quantum baitcaster (that's right BAITCASTER!!!) with this PowerPro braid. WOW!!!!  

First, not one backlash!!! Probably a combination of a better quality reel and PowerPro braid. The distance on my casts was crazy!! I hope this stuff works just as well on spinning rigs.

Unless this was a fluke...I'm sold!!!

Nope, not a fluke.  Comparing Power Pro to a comparable pound test mono or flouro, it will outcast either every time.

I hope this stuff works just as well on spinning rigs.

Hey Alan, I use it (20lb) on one of my Stradic 2500's for throwing jigs. Good stuff.

P.S...... What's a Baitcaster?  

Just think how you would feel if you bought a good braid. ;D Ah, just kidding. The only issues I have with it is the cut ends fray too much, which isn't a big deal. The other one is what I don't like about it. I bought high vis yellow for vertical jigging, and the color started fading after the second outing, and was almost gone after the 4th outing. Maybe I got the fake stuff, but I bought it at a local store. It is a strong, managable, castable line though. The PP I have, is on a spinning reel, it does work well on it.

The more you use it the better the braid will act in you hands. Just remember it is not for everything. Stay versital...

I just read the pack again. It does say that "the color will wear off, but this does not affect the integrity of the line."

Alan, I stick to three basic lines.

Braid for jigs mostly.

Flouro for worms and soft plastics

Mono for anything with treble hooks (topwater and cranks)

The use of braid depends on what kind of water you are fishing and what application.  I will say I am a big fan of braid, but this year I am going to use Yozuri Hyrbid on my rattle trap/crank reel.  Other than that it will be braid because I fish mostly stained or muddy farm ponds and love the sensitivity, while not being worried about visibility.  IMO you cannot find a better jig/worm line if your water is not crystal clear.  I also love it for spinnerbaits and frogs and you can feel the bite and do not need an eye crossing hookset.  Although I still try to cross their eyes and have lost fish because of a hard hookset and no stretch it is an issue I am willing to deal with.

However on a trip to Lake Vermillion catching smallies, I realized braid was not a good line with smallies because of their aggressive nature and big runs.  

I also do use it on spinning tackle as that is my 'more finicky' presentation and use 6 lb Yozuri Hybrid Ultra Soft thanks to RW and have been very impressed.  I cannot say the same for BC gear though.

Even if the water is crystal clear it's awesome - just use a long flouro leader, and -

Just wait until you refish the Park with it, lol. You will really notice a difference, you dont have to go get you lure out of cover, your lure takes the cover to the boat.

I don't get it. If you take a permanent marker any color and redo your Power Pro the color stays.

If you do take your braid off put it on old spool, or wrap it on a piece of cardboard.

1) I don't see why I should have to "re-color" my line. That's a lot of work to fix a faulty product. Maybe PP should buy a lot of permanent markers and have an employee stand there and color it as it comes off the machine.

2) Right on. A lot of my braid use is with a floro leader. Works well for me.

3) I, for one, do keep spare spools for changing out and turning around line from spooled reels.

Line color: if you are worried about the color fading, get some Stren Super Braid. I have some 30# on a spinning rig that's been on for 3 years and it's still has it's gold color. I use it a lot for wacky rigging with a fluorocarbon leader. The green colored line is just as good.

Just a question...

I remember Hawg Caller posting about in a study bass ate baits that  had gasoline poured on them, but does the scent of a marker or sharpie give off a bad scent that could turn fish away? Anyone out there do this to their braid and have it impact fish catches?

Believe it because it is true, The color change has not affected the line for me.  

To be fair I fish a couple lakes that muddy faded Bogs and perferr Power Pro faded.

I can certainly relate to that remark.

The difference between PowerPro, TUF Line and Sufix is debatable,

but the difference between braided polyethylene and monofilament is enormous!

Suggestion for coloring braid. When I am on a flipping pattern, I will color about 3' of braided line of either the gold or green color with soft plastic lure dye in the red color. That way I can tell if a fish has taken the lure on the fall when the line of color transition hasn't sunk to the level where my bait has fallen to the bottom. That colored part should be adjusted to the depth that you are fishing.
