This is a neat site.  Go to the bottom of the page and click on the knot war videos to see the comparison of various knot strengths.  The latest evaluation was on the palomar knot.  So far it's the strongest.  Next week it will be evaluated against the trilene knot.

Watching those videos takes to long.  Condensed results after testing the first 6 knots has the Palomar beating the others with the Eye Crosser coming in a very close 2nd the Uni a close 3rd.  All knots were considered good to use except the figure 8.

For braided line only the Palomar is recommended as all others slipped.

Seems like a good thorough test.

In the 5th week of the knot wars testing, the Palomar beat out the Eye Crosser as the strongest knot.  Next week the Palomar goes against the Trilene knot.

i have never had a palomar knot failure on any line except berkley vanish.i think any knot would fail with vanish.i will keep using my palomar until i die.

OK, week 6 of the knot wars is over and the palomar was declared the winner over the trilene knot.  Both the palomar and trilene knots were declared 100% strength on mono and fluorocarbon as the line broke before the knots;  however, on super line, the palomar came out the clear winner;  therefore, was declared the overall winner.  Next week the palomar goes against the world's fair knot.

yeah i'd use a palomar too if a fish pulled like that machine...what about SHOCK. that is what breaks the palomar, and that's how a fish strikes. yes i use it sometimes on mono line but not with fluro or braid..the uni is king there IMO.

I'm not surprised, but relieved. Some recent comments suggesting the Palomar Knot was not 100% or something close were disturbing. Although I have never had any issues with "strength", I do use other knots for big, treble hook lures. Usually the other knots were Uni or Trilene, but recently I have been tying the San Diego Jam. All three of these knots and the Improved Clinch are fundamentally the same.

Well, week 7 of the North American Knot Wars is now completed and the Palomar was the overall winner.  This week the Palomar went against the World's Fair knot and beat it out in all three line categories, i.e., mono, fluorocarbon and braid.
