Ideal crank setup

Featured Replies

What in your opinion is the ideal crankbait setup. Rod, reel, and line.

6'6 fenwick elite rod, abugarcia revo reel, 12lb mono, or 25lb braid.

Well, if you're looking for an "all-around" rig for treble hook lures, the one I have that fits the bill is a St. Croix Avid AC66MF with a soft tip. Mine is matched up with a Metaniun, but a Citica CI100DSV would be dandy! I like having a light reel to balance the package.

There are a couple of specific advantages to this combination: For lures you manuever more precisely (jerkbaits & topwater) this 6 1/2' rod is very manageable. For most true crank baits, the rod has just the right backbone for most fishing conditions. This rod and reel is also the one you will want to fish spinnerbaits and buzzbaits. This is a great all-around baitcaster set-up.

Now, for more specialized or technique specific rigs, I have a few others:

Big, deep running lures: Lamiglas SR705R/ Shimano CTE200GT

Light, shallow cranks: St. Croix Avid AC70MM/ Chronarch

Power cranking, heavy spinnerbaits and small swimbaits: St. Croix Legend Elite EC70MHF/ Shimano Calais

I fish Yo-Zuri Hybrid Ultra Soft #12 on all baitcasters.

Good luck!
