Best Overall Line

Featured Replies

Currently I only have one rod and reel and I was wondering what testline would be the best overall. My reel says that it is can take 165 yards for 6 pound testline, 145 for 8 and 120 for 10. Does this mean that I can't use testline over 10 pounds?

15-lb Spinning Tackle: 20-lb PowerPro Braid

15-lb Casting Tackle: 30-lb PowerPro Braid

30-lb Casting Tackle: 50-lb PowerPro Braid

I have several fishing outfits spooled with copolymer line and several spooled with fluorocarbon line.

Unfortunately, both my wife & myself avoid those outfits like the plague, so they're always left at the house (we both hate mono).

I need to respool those outfits with braided line so they find their way into my boat, otherwise they're going to die of loneliness :'(

10-15 lb yo-zuri hybrid for jerkbaits, spinnerbaits, and topwater baits.

65 lb powerr pro for frogs and jigs.

80 lb power pro for fliping.

6 lb yo-zuri ultra soft for spinning rod.

i would say around 8#s for that reel as you say but doestnt mean you cant get heavier line than 10 but the heavier than 10 for that reel is not a good idea b/c you wouldnt have much line on it. ;)

You can use line over 10# from a mechanical standpoint, i.e., the drag will still work. The capacity will be less, but would still be more than enough for bass fishing unless you really went heavy.

However, the spool on that reel is likely not very large and spinning works best when you're using a given line on a relatively large spool. With stronger line you'd probably have more problems with memory, less casting distance and more likelihood of tangles.

IFyou want to use line over ten lbs. , get yourself some 20 lb. braid (line dia. of 6 lb. mono.)
