I am looking for a 7' medium power, moderate action crankbait rod.  I would like to be able to cast 1/4 ounce and heavier crankbaits.  I do not want to spend more than $100.00.  What rods in that price range do you recommend?

Also, I see where KVD's crankbait really bends when he sets the hook like it is pretty flexible through the entire length of the road.  I would like to find a road with that kind of forgiveness.

I think that one of the best crankbait rods for the money is the BPS Crankin Stick. It comes in serveral power ratings and lengths and is a very good rod. They are usually $50 regular price but BPS always seems to put them on sale for $30ish.

Don't quote me on this but I think KVD as well as lot of other pros use fiberglass rods for cranking, they seem to be "softer" in the tip, but my experience is they are heavier in weight.  If you want fiberglass, David Fritts has an rod made by American Rodsmiths that is under $100 as well at BPS.

You might still find the St. Croix Avid on sale for around $100.

I have an Avid AC70MM which I highly recommend.

The Cranin Stik by BPS is graphite and fiberglass blend. I like it alot I have used better but for what I do with it, its perfect. I dont do a ton of crank baiting but its there if I need it and when I am using it I have no complaints about it.

Another vote for the BPS Crankin Stick. I've got a 7 foot Medium and love it. I've got it paired up with a Calcutta 150 and have no problems casting 1/4 oz and up. For $60 you can't beat it.

No, but at times it really helps. Also, "Moderate Action" is not wimpy, that better describes "Slow Action" which can include a complete parabolic bend (Ugly Stick).

If you use a rod with "Fast Action" a stretchy line (Trilene XL) will help cushion the pull. The point here is that treble hooks have a tendency to pull out because, often, they are not burried deep.

I agree with the board here: if you can find a pre-08' Avid  buy it, otherwise a BPS Crankin' Stick is tuff to beat for the $. I purchased the BPS rod years ago, have beaten the crap out of it, and it's still crankin' away.

Another vote for the Crankin Stick.  I have the 6 and a half foot version in M.  It will flat out sail a bait through the air.  It is fairly light and not bad looking.  I'd rather have an Avid or Loomis but hell you can buy a M and MH and still have 40 bucks left for some cranks.  You can't beat that.

You can get 3 Browning Silaflex crankin rods for $105 bucks. Fiberglass, been around forever. Good rods, I use them on a regular basis and I crank A LOT!

I am strictly a fiberglass crankbait rod junkie and another good one to look at under $100 would be the American Rodsmiths David Fritts signature crankin rods. I use those also, they are worth every penny.

I have this rod in M. I have it coupded to an older Curado and I use this setup for small cranks. It is a great rod for small mid-size cranks.

I am going to throw in a vote for the Shimano Compre. IMO, good rod and good warranty for the $$$.....and fairly lightweight as well.
