Which BC rod would be better?

Featured Replies

Purchased a Shimano Citica 100DSV.  Can't decide between the Loomis IMX, MBR843C or MBR844C (7', 843 is MH and 844 is H).  Plan to use the rod for worms and jigging.  Anyone with personal experience able to make a recommendation?  Thanks.

The CR723 has been my everyday jig n 'worm rod for years, however it has alawys given me the creeps to fish with it in denser woody cover, when faced in that situation I change to my flipping rod, a Shimano Clarus H Xtra Fast ........ with the subtle action of a pool cue  :), never been completely satisfied with it, it has the muscle but doesn 't have the sensitivity besides being very heavy  :-[. Got a CR724 recently and I feel much better with it for that purpose, more powerful than the CR723 but not a pool cue like the Clarus.

So it depends what you want it for, if faced to fish heavy woody cover I would go for the MBR844, if not, then the MBR843.

The MBR844C is a workhorse and can be

used for a number of techniques. However,

it the ideal rod for jigs and soft plastics!

I've owned several 844's and unless you just fish light line and are up north, I'd go 844 for your stated purpose.  It will serve you very well.  It has a light tip for a heavy rod so you can cast pretty light stuff if you want.

Can't go wrong with the 844. My favorite rod.

I own the IMX843C and 844C as well as the GLX BCR854C.  For worms and jigs, the GLX BCR854C is in my opinion the best, but if you are only considering the Mossyback BCR854C, then I would definitely purchase the IMX844C.  Great rod for soft plastics and jigs.  (Disclaimer: this is based only on my opinion and experience with these rods)
