Centrifugal vs Magnetic

Featured Replies

Whats the difference?  Why does one hig end reel like the Curado use centrifugal brakes while another like the Revo use a magnetic?

Simply different technologies, same results.

One uses weights and centrifugal force, the other one uses magnets and magnetic attraction.

centrigul is for controlling the faster movement of the spool where as  magnetic is for when the spool is going slower also for fine tuning a diff size bait... say going from a 3/8 to 1/4

e: Centrifugal  BRakes as the spool is turning

Magnetic: Work more as the spool is slowing down

Spool Tension Knob: is used to adjust the spool speed for various sized baits

Some new technologies: Combine the Magnetic and Centrifugl to control the speed during th cast and as the spool slows down

Nothing works better than an educated thumb, regardless.

Centrifugal brakes apply more force the faster the spool is turning. Magnetic brakes apply the same force throughout the cast. Dual braking systems have both centrifugal and magnetic force applied to the spool at the beginning of the cast, as the spool slows, the centrifugal force becomes less and less while the magnetic force continues to apply the same force throughout.
