flipping/pitching rod suggestions?

Featured Replies

I am wanting to get a telescoping flipping/pitching rod and can spend up to about $140.  I am just now trying to learn how to flip/pitch successfully, and want a better set up.  I currently use a combination of Loomis and Al Star baitcasters...and have to admit that I like Loomis gear.  It seems like weight would be a major issue with a 7'6" rod, and from my experience, Loomis is light.

I fish Lake Lanier a lot in Georgia, so most of the cover I fish is rocks, brush, docks, and stumps...doesn't tend to be the grass.  I want to use braid, is there a certain type of guides I need to shop for?

How about the Procyon from Daiwa?  Super cheap...must be a reason it is only $39.  It has IM7 graphite and aluminum oxide guides.  I have learned that buying quality is worth it in the long-run, but I have to admit that this is a tempting price for me at this point.  Anybody have any major problems with that rod?

Welcome aboard!

If you are currently fishing G. Loomis,

your $39 rod days are behind you. I

know nothing about the rod, but I'm

sure you won't like it!

Thank you roadwarrior...just needed somebody else to remind me not to waste $40 bucks.

Are there any Loomis flipping/pitching rods under $220?

I have an All Star American Classic 7'6" (AC FRH).  I like it a lot.  It's sensitive enough, and it will lift a small SUV.   About $90.

The only Loomis flipping stick under $220 is the FSR904X GL2 at $180. That rod is also the only model that has the telescoping handle. It is also available in IMX at $325.

If you're willing to spend $220, get the Dobyns 765 flipping stick.

Only thing is, it's not telescopic.  Makes it lighter, and I believe a bit more sensitive.

If you need a telescopic rod, the Kistler 07 model is on sale for $220 at ***. I don't have any personal experience with this rod.

The dobyns 765 is counter weighted, and is PERFECTLY balanced with a Revo STX or Daiwa Zillion.

may wanna look at the legened tourney bass series of rods from st croix ... they have a few rods in the series that are teles and would be great for flipping and pitching /// also they have one in the avid series that would be cheaper but still a great rod ...

In that 140 price range shoot for the Daiwa LT. Awesome rods for the$$

As for the procyons, not bad rods at all! I have three that I use for multi purpose, a 7'6 tele. that i throw swim baits on. For small change they are great rods!
