buzz bait problems

Featured Replies

Ive been buzzin a lot this fall. There are several key factors to take into effect..

Forage- you want the bait to match the size of the bait the bass a keyed on to. Ive been using almost completly a Boo Yah pond Magic buzz bait because I seem to get more hits on the smaller size.

Weather- On clear/ partly cloudy days i use a white or smoke/grey color. When its overcast i go yellow. Also take into acount if its cold front or post cold front conditions. I burn the buzz bait under these conditions to get reaction strikes from other wise inactive fish

Locate the bait- Its very important to find where the shad are holding.  If there in shallow grass thats what you nedd to be looking for for example.  This fall ive been finding a lot of bait holding on catails and stumps so that where in pitching 90% of the time

Listen to the bass- let the bass tell you what they want. Some days the want it just crawled along and other days they may want a varying speed. Its key to expirement and let the bass tell you what they want

A little trick i learned from an old timer was to drill several small holes in the blade. This little modification can make all the difference some days. Dont be afraid to pitch the bait into the tightes little places you can find. My biggest bass this year came from the heart of an overhanging bush that i bearly squeezed the bait in.

I HIGHLY recommend the Cavitron Buzzbait.

Fish it on or near cover and structure.

Fish it in clear to stained water around cover.

Fish it as slow as you can but still keep it on top.

Always use a trailer hook.

fish it high

fish it low

fish it fast

fish it slow

fish it mister

fish it ma'm

fish it fish it

sez Sam I am.

Using a trailer hook will probably hook you up on more bass. But it will also hook you up more on other things too. So it's a give and take.

Ya, love the cavitron now too, been slayin em bad the last 2 weeks on it.This gem has rekindled my love for buzzers.

in all honestly bend the blade till it ticks the bottom wire....this is a reaction bait and needs some tweeking..if no more than bending wire to make the blade to run left or right.

As far as a trailer hook I do not use one as a grub on the hook will allow the hook to find the bass's mouth as it hits.

My thoughts on this matter is a bass doesn't bite, but tries to inhale it's prey and as a bass opens it's mouth it creatats a vaccum that allows a bait or food to enter it's mouth. With that being said place mass on the hook do not just add another hook..jmo..
