beginning baitcaster

Featured Replies

So i plan on buying a baitcaster this summer for swimbait/spinners/buzzbaits. I wqas thinking about pairing an Abu Garcia Black Max with a 7' MH Basspro Shops Extreme XPS Trigger rod

What do you think about this combo?

Im willing to spend up to $90 for the rod or reel.

I would definitely go with the BPS Extreme Rod/Reel combo. Its what I started with a  couple years ago and I still use it a lot. Its a great combo for the price. $100

For me, MH is for lures  1/2 oz. or more -  which really limits what you throw. A softer M action is more forgiving, easier to learn baitcasting, and will allow you to use more of your baits.  jmho...

+1

I found a Med rod much easier to learn baitcasting.  I found with a MH a first I was launching my cats more up than out.

I think that'll be a good combo to learn on. Just remember keep your thumb on the spool or you wont be fishing you'll be picking out a backlash all day long ;).
