Need help with a minor rod repair

Recommended Posts

HELP!!!!!!!!!!! I was taking my rods out of the boat this evening and a Jitterstick on one rod had somehow hooked into another rods hookholder. When I picked up the rods, one slipped from my hands onto the shore AND TORE THE HOOKHOLDER OFF THE ROD,

I do not care about replacing the ##*#)=-! Hook holder, but the thread tore on the top wrap and the bottom. What kind of epoxy or what ever it is do I need to paint over these 2 damaged wraps as not to leave the blank exposed there. The wraps just supported the hook holer and nothing else structuraly on the rod, :-/

Muddy that isn't a minor repair.

I would take cleaning up the area (removing the threads etc) and re-coating the finish.

I would recommend that you check your local yellow pages for rod repair or custom building. You could also check with the MFG of the rod for repair.

Just my .02¢ from the rod bench.

i dont think a missing hook holder is a big deal.

all you gotta do is rip off the threads (or leave them, but it will look better without) and then either wrap new threads across the whole area, or leave it with no threads. then just lightly coat it in Devcon 2 Ton epoxy and slowly roll the rod on the table (epoxy shouldnt touch table) so that way the epoxy wont run and sag while it is still wet and drying. after about a half hour of slowly rolling it, the epoxy should have set up thick enough where it wont run anymore.

hope you figure something out.

Hmm...

No offense .disaavedra, but I think I'd go with

The Reel Mechanic's advice. He has "a little bit"

of experience with these things.

:)

Muddy, looks like you may have caught a case of my recent bout with Boneheadeditis (it might be associated with some bad mojo of that black Jitterstick why do you think I gave it to you LOL looks like an exorcism is in order).

Yea Muddy go with the rod guys. If you coat that with epoxy it will just crack again when it's flexed. Rod finish is flexible and NOT considered an epoxy. Most are 2 part polymers...
