WHat type of line should i use?

Featured Replies

I just got my first baitcast reel and its a Shimano Bantam Coriolis and I was wondering what type of line do you guys use for your baitcast reels?

im currently using Trilene Extra smooth cast 10lb line. but i was wondering if there was somethin else you'd recommend or something

I'd say it really depends on what you're planning on throwing. I use line from 10# up to 20# on my baitcasters. Here's a quick run down of a few of my set ups.

10#  small crankbaits

14#  worms and top water baits

17# spinnerbaits

20#  tubes and jigs (flippin stick)

That will work but it matters more on how you fish, water clarify, method, types of structure. All of that comes into play also. I wpould say that is a good line for crankbaits but if T-Rgging in junk a hiogher pound ratio or better wear resistance is required.

usually i like to T-rig a zoom finesse worm with either a 1/4 OZ or 1/8 OZ  bullet weight in clear water with some downed trees and sea weed

Your 10 lb. will be fine, but when you go to respool I would go up to 12#. It is a good all around size for many applications, IMO.

Spinning tackle: Yo-Zuri Hybrid Ultra Soft #6 (.010" diameter, 11.9 lb test)

Baitcasting gear: Ultra Soft #12 (.013" diameter, 19.5 lb test)

8-)

Just out of curiosity, where do you fish in KY?

I fish around Barkley and Ky dam.
