Does 2 inches more in rod length really help??

Featured Replies

I've only been fishing now for about 12 years. In most of that time I thought they broke rod lengths every 6 inches, like 5'6", 6', 6'6", and 7'. Then in the last couple of years I've really noticed there's a lot of 6'4", 6'9", 7'2", and other odd lengths out there. Can a 7'2" rod really make THAT much difference over a 7' rod??

Yes, 2 inches makes a difference.  Not only in the feel but also in the action.

Yes, 2 inches makes a difference. Not only in the feel but also in the action.

YEA ESPECIALLY WITH WIGGLE RIGS AND SHAKY HEADS

I think the extra length really helps, size matters

Especially  when you need the extra action to entice.

I believe we have a Muddy Jr.  :(

2 inches wont help much, what is really needed is strength so the rod won't fail in the middle of the fight if you get my drift  :(

ps. bigger butt>>> firmer grip thus more power ;D ;D

That was way too easy!  Kind of like hitting a home run in batting practice. ;D

:)

Apparently I should have rephrased the question. :-? :(

That is an understatement of gigantic proportions!!!

It depends upon the Grip  :(

While 2 inches from the pivot point could make a meaningful difference in the speed of the tip during a cast, other factors come into play.  For instance, from the reel, my 6'6" and 6'3" rods are almost the same length (< 1" difference) and have nearly the same guide spacing.  Most of the difference is in the length of the grip.  Thus, depending upon design, the 2" difference could be more a matter of ergonomics than tip speed.

Thank you for the actual answer to my question.  Now let the laughing and joking continue.   :) Hey, I can laugh at myself too, I know I accidentally left the door wide open so I gotta take what's coming as a result.  I'll be more careful next time though.   ;D

Hey Rooster, that's called getting mooked, no harm meant, it was like hitting a batting practice ball ;D
