A new toy  Pflueger Supreme BC

Featured Replies

I got a brand new Pflueger Supreme Baitcaster the other day frm Cabelas for $139 ( reg $179 ). I went out today and caught a bass on the first cast ( the bait monkey will be in overdrive ). So far the reel seems very sweet. I was fishing a very light weightless worm and it casts vey well. The reel is very low profile. I like the way the cast control nob clicks as you adjust it. This makes it easier to tell how much you have adjusted it. The reel seems very light compared to my Citica. ( I do like my citica as well. I love the color of the reel as well.

I'll post a more detailed review as I use it more.

I have a Johnny Morris Elite BC reel, which is very close to the Supreme.  Mine has worked flawlessly for nearly a year now, and will flat out out-cast everything I have, including my Revos and Curado.  The brake is the sweet point of the reel.  The centrifugal weights are very easily adjusted and the magnetic brake is just as easy to adjust as any other reel.  So far, this has been backlash-free reel.  I'm considering another, or maybe a Patriach.

It is very close to your Johnny Morris because they are all made in the same place.   Silstar manufactures reels for Plueger and BPS.

I know.  Most folks think Pflueger makes JMEs.  In reality, both are OEM'd out to another source.  I understand that Pflueger is using a different OEM house now that they've been bought by Pure Fishing.

I sure would like the poop on ALL THIS.

Why? If you like the product, what difference does it make? Just curious why there is always this discussion about house reels. I would really love to know, before I purchase any other BPS reels this coming spring.

Thanks

Because it's interesting.

OK I was wondering if it was because of possible problems with the reels themselves, I am a little slow on the uptake sometimes. Thanks

ps If thats the case it is not something I would have interest in finding out

What do you mean by JMEs & OEM'd?  When a larger company buys a smaller do they change all the great things that the company stands for just like the rest of America?  I shore would hate to see that happen to BPS and Pflueger. Who is Pure Fishing?

Hey Sharkbite call me. None of this is really important, except for the tackle afficinados. These guys buy stuff they do not ever use! They look at their stuff and make comparisons concerns weights as little as a grain, if you are not planning on going to that level, none of it is really important.

It is just who makes the reel. The truth is most compaines put their names on products that they contract others to make for them , no big deal.

What Muddy said.   I've just ben curious as to the source of certain Pflueger and Johnny Morris reels.   Not that it matters much.  Pflueger makes a very fine product.  Johnny Morris reels are very good, too.

Pure Fishing is a company that owns several fishing companies, including Abu Garcia, Fenwick rods, All Star rods, Shakespeare, Pflueger, among others.

Hey Micro: Dodgeguy has it that the BPS and the Pflugers are made by the same folks, you may wanna ask him. He has never once given me bad info about either label, as I have used both.

PS Something I noticed, mind you I am no expert. The brake setting and maitainance info for the Pflueger Supreme is the same word for word as the BPS Pro Qualifier, the recent gray one. They look identicl when you hold the info side by side.

I have not had any problems with house reels but when I consider buying one the lowest bidder concept always comes to mind and I usually will pass on those reels in favor of a major brand name.

Another problem I have about a reel manufacturer is the new Curado. How can they produce a new and better reel and sell it considerably cheaper? Where did they cut the production cost? In my mind cheaper is not usually better as far as quality is concerned. Needless to say I usually take my time when when buying a new reel and always have second thoughts until the reels is well used.

Sorry, I did not mean to steal this thread with my personal problems............Al
