Braid on a spinning line??????

Recommended Posts

Just bought a Shimano Symetre 2500...... was thinking of putting braid on it.......

Any of you guys try braid on a spinning reel??? and how did you like it???  I have powerpro 30 lb. on my baitcaster, and it has worked well thus far..........

heck yeah it works really well- I like using 6-12lb braid due to its super small diameter and then tie it to a flourocarbon leader- great for finesse fishing for increased sensitivity and zero line twist that haunts spinning reels so often.

Most of my spinning gear is spooled with super lines. There is no such thing as zero line twist, its just the line is so limp that twist is not a problem.

I have two spinning reels that I use for bass fishing.  Since I have extra spools, I have one with 20# Power pro, another with 15# Power Pro, another with 8# FC, and another with 6# FC.  Braid is great when in low visibility water, and FC for those tough clear waters.  You can also use a FC leader with the braid as well - just use a uni to uni connection.

I started using braid on spinning reels for power finesse apps.  It works so well, I'm using it for light applications like flick shakes and open water apps.

Skipping senkos up under brush or around timber when the jig bite isn't on.

I am having trouble with twists and kinks when using a frog with a jerking then reeling technique. Would braided fix this problem?

YES! ;D

I run 8lb fireline (3 lb dia) on my spinning reels, extra spools have 6lb floro just in case the water is really clear or the fish are extra finicky, thats seldom an issue though. If a fish will hit a jig on 50lb braid, they certainly will hit a lure on line the diameter of hair! As was said, the feel is second to none and line twist is much less of a problem

I have two spools for my Stradic. One has 10lb test powerpro, the other has 6lb Copolymer. I switch them out depending on where I am fishing. If I am near vegetation or wood, I use the braid spool. If I am near rocks, or open water, I use the copoly. I also base what line to use on the type of bait I'm fishing

Every rod I own is spooled with Yellow Power Pro mostly 20lb on 2000, 2500, 4000 spinning. I fish a pro/am every year and spool 50lb on spinning for my am's and it works well.

In weedy lake I permanent marker the last 10 ft and clear lakes run leaders.

I use 20# Suffix Performance braid of my spinning reels all the time. Only time I have any major issues is in COLD weather (below 32F).

I've had some issues with braid twisting...when it does and knots up it's insanely hard to get the knots out, they get into tight little balls.  This only happened when I was fishing during the shad run with a spoon so that might have caused some crazy twisting.

sounds like it works well for most of you guys....... I've had problems lately on my baitcaster with braid breaking at the knot.....

So, guess I'm going to have to learn that Palamor knot and give it a shot.....
