Awesome Flea Market Find

Featured Replies

Today I was at the Flea Market and I found a diamond in the rough. I found a Shimano Stradic 4000 FE. It is a little rough around the edges and probably needs a few parts but I got this reel for $5.00. I think that is an awesome deal. Here is a list of the parts I think it will need.

RD 7987 - Bail Assembly

RD 7988 - Drive Gear

RD 7801 - Ball Bearing

RD 7991 - Handle Screw Cap

I'll post some pics later. I already took it apart and cleaned and lubed it and put it back together. Something is wrong with the bail, it is hard to click over even by hand. The drive gear seems to have some corrosion and it seems like the bearing is permanently attached to the drive gear so i'm going to replace those. and i'm replacing the handle screw cap just for good measure. Anything else I should be replacin on this reel. All the gears inside look great with the exception of the main gear. How much will all these parts run me.

Send it to Reel Mechanic it would be worth it in the long run

Hey CFF I bought a ABU C4 for 5 bucks i sent to to Reel Mech, he cleaned , lubed it and for 5 bucks more he replaced the pawl so for less than 35 bucks I have a reel that works better than new and for less than half the cost of new. I gave it to a friend of mine and he loved it 8-)

I would send it in to shimano just because they will replace anything wrong w/ it for basically a flat rate which they charge for clean and service.

If the reel looks so beat up or not worth fixing they may even replace it w/ a new one for you for free!

This is why Majority of my reels are shimano. They will take care of their customers.

Unlike all the other major reel makers. Yep you can pick a Shimano right outta the trash, no papers, with major parts missing and send it to them. Even if it's 15 years out of warranty they will replace aol parts for free. Ya gotta love Shimano.............
