10 lb Power Pro

Recommended Posts

I've been using 10lb braided line on a 7' M spinning rod all summer. I use this rod for fishing flukes and small topwater lures. I used Suffix all summer long. When I finally needed to respool, I bought 10lb powerpro instead, just because it is easier to purchase. However, I have been having a problem with my knots. It seems like every time I try to set the hook on a fish, the line breaks at the knot. I use a palomar knot and wet before I cinch. It's the same knot I've used with all other braids but this power pro 10lb is the only line I have had a problem with. Has anyone else had this problem? Any suggestions?

Just a little bit of super glue on the knot should work, not alot that it seeps onto your hook or lure; just a real small dab.  I add just a little on the knot on my knots using braid.

I did notice that the coating on Power Pro is quite slick & the reason for the knot problems.

I have this problem on my baitcaster as well......... I just starting using Powerpro 30 lb. on the Revo Stx and have been broke off 3 times at the hookset because of a bad knot.......

I've never had a problem before and to say the least it is very frustrating......

I am interested in hearing your suggestions as well.........

hmmm you can do a experiment and just hook one end to a rock or whatever that will hold ur hook in place, then set the hook and see what happened.

from experience, i have never had any type of braid line break... ever... it just don't break unless it's cut from a sharp edge.

I have a pack of 50lb power pro braid that i haven't used yet. i really hope its not the line, but then again, i have hard nothing but good comments about it.

I have used a palomar knot successfully with:

65lb P-Line Spectrex

65lb Suffix Performance

65lb Power Pro

10lb Suffix Performance

A regular palomar knot will work fine with those lines.

I went out this morning and took the extra time to tie a double palomar with my 10lb Power Pro and I didn't have any problems with the knot failing.

I had been tying a different knot and tried a double Palamor knot....

I haven't fished with it yet with this knot but it seems super strong now...

Will post results of my next trip-

I use a uni-knot for braids, including 10 # PowerPro, and have had no problems.  I wrap the line through the eye twice before I tie the uni-knot for a little extra cushion for the knot.

Use the double palomar.

I couldnt imagine going from Sufix BACK to power pro. Kind of like going back to Ancient Age from Makers Mark, lol.

yeah I had trouble with knots breaking....... used the double palamor knot today and no problems...... this knot will hold......... so I'd recommend you use this knot 100% the next time you go fishing....

Are you sure it is coming undone at the knot? I just recently bought some PowerPro 20lb to give it a try.  I had only used Spider Wire, and Sufix before and loved them. Tonight in the back yard I had a crazy thing happen with my PowerPro line I just spooled my bait caster wtih. I was throwing a 1/2 oz. spinner bait, about done for the night, thought I would try and give it one last super through when snap! I saw the spinner bait go flying and looked down at my reels new birds nest. I thought that my knot had come undone after reading everyone talking about trouble with knots holding in braid. When I went and retrieved my lure, I noticed it still had some string on it. The knot hadn't come undone; evidentially I must have backlashed it and the line broke. Either way I have never had this happen with sufix or spider wire.

I'm pretty positive the knot was giving. It wasn't coming back with the whole not so I'm pretty sure it wasn't slipping through the gap.

Bizz- I would have nothing but Suffix if it wasn't an hours drive away. PowerPro is available in hometown. I agree with your comparison though. It's not a pleasant switch  :-/

Give it time , it will happen with sufix and spider wire because it is a reel problem caused by the backlash.
