Abu Garcia reels?

Featured Replies

Does anybody know anything about the revo wench or the premier reels. I'm wanting to buy a low profile and I love the abu line. I want to try and stay away from the brake on the left side of the reel due to the fact that I tend to turn the knob when I hold the reel, unless they have made this harder to do. I am looking for a rel that is easy to cast and is good about minimizing backlash.

If your set on lp Abu Garcias take a look at the Revo s.  Centrifugal brakes located inside the side plate.  Once you have them adjusted how you like, your pretty much all set.  There's no external adjustment, you have to remove the side plate which is easy enough.  They sell for about $100

I just want a low pro that's just as easy to use as my new C4 but with more comfort. I want one for my spinnerbaits, buzzbaits, poppers, and shallow cranks. Its such a tough decision. I don't know what to do! :'(

I F THAT'S THE BIGGEST PROBLEM YOU HAVE GOT , YOU ARE DOING GREAT.

Here's an idea.  Go here and check them all out. www.abugarcia.com.

There is a description of each of their LP reels.  Includes gear ratio/bearings/drag and prices.  I can tell you this. The Winch was built expressly for deep cranking with a 5.4 gear ratio.

I own a batch of Revo STX's and use them for all my bass fishing.  They have the drag adj. on the outside and I palm my reels and have not had a problem turning that knob while palming it.

Josh, I didn't originally mention the Winch because of it's 5.4 gear ratio.  I thought maybe you were looking for more of a general use reel.  I bought it late this fall and was able to use it fishing cranks, which was my main purpose for buying it. It has the same centrifugal brakes as the s model and along with the slower ratio has a bit more line capacity. I must say that I loved the winch for cranking and may give it a shot at a musky or two.  Again, for general use, the Revo s might be the better option because of it's 6.4 ratio.  Good luck and let us know.

The Revo Winch is a good reel, but it is a heavy bait reel.  I can't make it cast light lures worth crap.  But that's OK, I bought it for big, deep diving cranks, which it casts very well, indeed.  It's geared for deep diving crankbaits.

The Revo S is great reel.  It will cast light and heavy baits alike.  If you are looking for an all-around reel, the Revo S is the better choice.   Its price makes it the value-leader in the Revo line.

The Premier is very nice, but it has that externally adjustable brake you mentioned.  (But for the life of me, I can't figure out how you unintentionally turn the knob, it's rather tight to turn.)

Given the criteria you mentioned, I think the Revo S is the way to go.  It gives up nothing in terms of performance to the more expensive Revos.
