Chronarch 50mg or 100BSV

Featured Replies

Well let me start out by saying for the last month instead of spending my free time on the lake, I have been building a privacy fence for my girlfriend.  So I have only got to fish once or two days instead of twenty.  My girlfriend realizing the sacrifice I made to complete this project has told me she will get me anything I want for fishing up to $200 for x-mas.  What a woman!  So I'm trying to figure out what I want.

The chronarchs are on clearance for $180 thats one option and I'm also considering a new Curado but I have 2 200D's (5.1 and 7.1).  I love them and they aren't even a year old so I probably won't upgrade them.  I have heard nothing but good things about the Chronarchs and am really looking at them.  Both models are the same price and same gear ratio, but is there a better choice.  I'm not really sure what I would be using it for?  I will probably use it for throwing shallow cranks and jerkbaits.  But I don't know.  Tell me what you guys think about each and what you use them for.

Thanks

Agreed!

Why?

the 50mg is a great reel for light stuff- although the drag is pretty week.  If you ever plan on throwing bigger stuff for bigger fish you will want a full sized reel. Just IMO- the 50mg is a great little reel in the right application.

light stuff like what?  weightless trick worms or small cranks?  what rod would you pair it with?

Unless your throwing swim baits the 50MG will handle anything you want to throw  :)

And any freshwater fish you might have an opportunity to catch.

Ok well I guess the 50mg has it.  What is wrong with the 100B?

Nothing is wrong with the B.  The Chronarch B is more of a powerhouse reel than the Mg.  The BSV is geared for saltwater and large freshwater fish, as it has more line capacity.  For the shallow cranks and jekbaits you posted about, well, another vote for the Mg.

At one time I had a MG and two chronarch b's. I got rid of the MG.

I will go ahead and disagree with everyone on this thread.  The 50MG is a great little reel but by far my favorite reel in my arsenal is the ChronarchB (this includes Zillions, Curados, Metaniums, and a TDZ).  Sure it weighs a few ounces more but it is so smooth and NEVER gets even the slightest professional overrun.  When this sale occured at Tackle Warehouse I bought four of them.  I have had one for two years and it has never been serviced and I use it on a 6-foot rod, it regularly outcasts other reels with 7 foot rods and it never backlashes.  The 50MG is not quite as smooth and not quite as durable IMHO.

Thank you for your opinion.

I have them both , each has a place but the 50mg is great with plastics.

I agree with this.  I have them both as well and the "B" is so smooth it almost doesnt even feel like it casted!  If im fishing with it for a while and then pick up my Revo it feels like im fishing on a dirtroad in comparison (if you can make sense of that  :)   )

Well, I ordered the 50mg yesterday and now I need a rod.  I've got a crucial 7' MHF coming for x-mas, but I'm gonna pair that with a Curado 200DHSV for spinnerbaits and traps.  I think I want to use this reel for treble hooks like jerkbaits, topwater and shallow cranks.  What rod would you recommend for this.  I'm looking at Shimano Crucials and St. Croix Avids right now, but I am welcome to other suggestions.
