jig and senko rod under 150 bucks

Featured Replies

I got some left over money from Christmas and would like the buy the lightest and most sensitive rod for the money.

It has to be 7' or less and would like slit grip but you could convince me otherwise. Looking at powells?

How about the Cumara? they are built for bottom bouncing.  you can get them for around 130 plus shipping on ebay.

I'd be looking at a Powell at that price range.

Cant beat a carrot stix. Its everything you asked for and more!

Only prob its 150+shipping and tax.

Yup, 6'9" MH. Simmons Sporting Goods on ebay. 149.99 and free shipping. And with the Carrot you also get the lifetime warranty.

I have the Powell 703CEF 7' MH/EF .Super lite and sensitive. Use it with a low profile Revo STX and it feels great and fun to fish with. Use it for Senkos mid size jigs T rigs. My other set up is a 6'6" Gloomis rod med power/fast tip. i use this for the lighter same stuff plus small traps/cranks spinnerbaits. Ive thrown cranks and larger spinners off the Powell and it loads up and handles all well . Powell also of course has them in the med/power range if that might suit you better. I also have a Powell 6'8' spinning rod for other applications which Ive been very satisfied with. 8-) 8-)

I would try to find a used Avid or buy a new powell. 7' MHF/XF would be my first choice with a 6'6" MHF/XF the second

I was thining either 6'8 heavy or medium heavy. I like the idea of a little bit shorter butt section. I fish of the Coosa River in Alabama so lots of grass and moss fishing. Only reason i would consider a heavy is football jig fishing but i would also like to throw so big crankbaits and weightless worms on this rod and i think a heavy action would limit that.

Powell uses a better cork and blank than the Dobyns Champion series...if you get the Xtreme series then it is just a step above the Powell Max rods, but at that price point I'd be looking at something else TBQH.

That Dobyns rod is warrantied for 1 year...until Dec 2009. A lot of people are thinking that they will buy the rod, break it, and turn it in for a newer model. Is this going to work? Probably. Should you do it? No. Do I care if you do it anyway? Nope.
