My next rig? Need advice

Featured Replies

Hi guys.  As i started to get into fishing a year or 2 ago, i got a couple of general purpose rods.  I currently have the these setups:

1. St Croix Avid 6' M spinning w/ a diawa capricorn reel

2. 6'6" MH Grandt casting w/ a shimano citica 200d

Now that i am starting to get into specific techniques that i like, etc., I am finding myself wanting a few specialized setups.

I typically fish soft plastics (75% of the time), and spinnerbaits/crankbaits the other.  I am having a difficult time selecting my next rig.  Since i am fishing plastics quite a bit, im looking for a M or MH rod with a fast tip.  My dillema is if i get a fast tip rod, what can i use my avid for? can i still use this for cranks and spinnerbaits?  I feel like this is a little too small for that...

I guess my issue is that i dont want to get a new setup and have one of these rods collecting dust, because they are both really nice setups...any guidance?

Thanks

how much do you want to spend? do you want spinning or casting?

alot of people like XF for jigs/plastics. i have yet to try mine. why not buy a med or mh xf rod?

I think you are missing a crankbait rod in the arsenal.  The sjpinning will let you fish a lot of plastics and smaller jigs while your mh setup should work for jigs and spinnerbaits.  Lots of guys use a baitcaster with a M rod for cranking and you don't have one YET. :)

This might help:

It sounds like you need a rod dedicated to treble hook lures,

moderate action or fast with a soft tip.
