I've heard that graphite becomes brittle and weakens in low temperatures. I was wondering if there is any truth to this and whether I should be concerned about using high modules rods in temps around 20 to 30 degrees fahrenheit.

If thats the case I guess people who ice fish have to use bamboo or fiberglass rods...

My garage got colder than 20-30 degrees in nyc lol  I wouldnt be concerned at that temperature. Now if it was -20 -30 degrees in the tundra, then I would be worried.

I fish for steelhead through the winter, and the only rod I broke was when the leader snapped, and the rod tip hit a branch on the rebound.  I wouldn't be too concerned with temps in the 20-30s.  I fish in colder all the time.

Have seen clear coated under the guides where the wrap is- cracked or chipped. Not sure if it was affected from the cold weather.

No worries, graphite will withstand much lower temps than you will.  

What I've heard (this could be wrong) is that the contraction rate of graphite is different then that of the epoxy holding the guides in place.  Therefore, delamination or some cracking can occur in the epoxy.  That's the only damage I heard that could occur due to the extreme cold.
