Featured Replies

I know the new fad is big swimbaits. But has anyone had luck with other big lures like big topwaters liek this Heddon Mag Spook.

Also If someone can give me a a link or two where I can browse over some swimbaits. Also, reccommendations for rod/reel combos for big swimbaits and topwaters? Moderate or fast action?

You should try it with a Brush Hog, it 's even bigger.  ;)

I fish a couple different home made versions of the large walking baits. One is 7.5" without the tail and the other is 10" without the tail. If you get a lunker punker be ready for a Chinese built bait that is not durable and will cost $60. They undeniably whack big fish though. I couldn't even guess how many 10+s i have heard of being caught on that bait this year. I have heard no promising reports of the mag spook.

IMO the best big bait to start out with would be a 7-9 inch wakebait.

A lot of the Chinese built baits aren't as durable as the Japanese baits.  I would pay $50 for a Japanese bait before I would pay $40 for a Chinese bait.

I would pay $150 for an American swimbait before I would pay $40 for a chinese OR japanese one.
