Hey guys I am just getting back into fishing after a two year lapse.  I was wondering on average how many rods you have on your deck.  And whats a good number I was thinking something like this I will be tourney fishing..

2- Spinnerbait

1- Topwater

1- Frog

3- Pitchin/ Flippin- Tube/ Jig/ Creature Bait

2- Plastics- Worm/Lizard

4- Crankin Rods

1- Ratl Trap

2- Spinning- trick worm - Finnese

1- Carolina Rig

Plus Back ups in Rod Locker.

I appreciate all the help.  Any new products I may have missed other than he chatter bait feel free to drop me a line.  I went once last year but now my bussiness is running smoothly and so I can get away.

one maybe 2 rods the rest are in a rod locker.

Thats a lot of rods I know but if your practicing for a tourney you don't want to waste a ton of time fumbling around come tourny day I'll probably have 4- 5 rods.  And have some back ups in the locker.

You also don't want to be tripping over your stuff.

I say 6-7 rods max should cover 95% of all situations.

I do about 95% of my fishing with three rods. If I carry more for specialty applications, they are stored most of the time.

Four rods on deck is all I use.

I say ONE rod for each type of fishing you will be doing.

1- Spinnerbait

1- Topwater

1- Frog

1- Flippin Stick

1- Worm Rod

1- Crankin Rod (Can use Ratl Traps with it too)

1- Spinning Finesse Rod

1- C-Rig rod

When practicing for a tournament I love to have a bunch of rods rigged for anything and everything but I keep them in the locker. It seems to me that you are putting to much emphasis on what lure to use, instead of where the fish are. It isn't safe to have that many rods on the boat, not to mention it's not very efficient. The majority of my prefishing is done with a search bait. I am not trying to catch the fish when searching. I look for the flash of a fish or a follow or anything to tell me that bass are in the area. Then once I have found them I pick up a confidence lure (jig) and start to fine tune the presentation. I try to figure out what they are holding on, and what mood they are in. This is when I start pulling rods out of the rod locker. Then I catch a couple to see what size I can expect from the area. After that I crank up and go find another spot.

So to start with I would suggest having only three or four rods on the boat with one of the rods being a slower confidence bait.

P.S. Don't be afraid to tie a knot or two.

I use one medium 7' rod and one med-heavy 6'6" and if you ask me that covers all the fishing i do. Topwater, cranks, spinners, and plastics on the 7ft and the rest on the  6'6".

I say 3 rods is good.  Have one rod for like, cranks and spinner, one for worms and one for topwater.

I carry 4 rods total   8-)
