Action

Featured Replies

I have some older rods that I would like to put back in circulation to give some needy reels good homes for the spring. I would like to use the set-ups the best way possible, but some of the rods do not say whether "Moderate" or "Fast" action.

Is there anyway to tell by looking or bending or where taper changes or am I merely overanalyzing?

Thanks all- Twitch

The action sometimes is written on the blank, other times is not, it 's encoded in the model number of the rod, for example: CRCX66MH

CRC = Shimano Crucial

X = Extra fast

66 = 6'6"

MH = Medium Heavy Power

Opposed to CRC66MH

CRC = Shimano Crucial

66 = 6'6"

MH = Medium Heavy Power

Where 's the action ?

If it doesn 't say you can assume that it 's a Fast action.

Another example where the action is encoded in the rod model number:

AVC60MM

AV = Fenwick Techna AV series

60 = 6'

M = Moderate action

M = Medium Power

Any crankbait rod labeled as CRANKBAIT ROD will be Moderate action regardless of the power rating.

Is "Fast" then (for lack of a better term) the default action on most rods. I am assuming these are lower priced models, Team Diawa and Berkely Cherrywood and 2 more that are well fihed enough I can't tell.

Thanks again for all of your help.
